Children's Smartwatch with SIM Card and Hungarian Menu: What to Know Before Buying

Hungarian children get their first phone of their own at an average age of nine. This was revealed by a 2025 NMHH survey of children aged 7 to 16. But many children start going to school on their own even earlier. For the years between their first independent trips and their first phone, many families choose a kids' smartwatch with calling.

There’s plenty to choose from, and at first glance most watches look the same. We’ve put together what tests and comparisons usually leave out.

1. What about school? A watch is useful even where students have to hand it in

Since September 2024, government decree 245/2024 (VIII. 8.) has been in force: students hand in their telecommunications devices before lessons and get them back afterward. How this applies to smartwatches is determined by each school's rules. Some schools mention them explicitly, while others only address mobile phones. The safest thing is to ask the school directly.

Even if students have to hand in their watches during lessons, children mainly need them at other times:

  • On the way to and from school, when they’re going alone for the first time.
  • At after-school care, clubs, or training, when plans change and you need to coordinate.
  • At the playground, outside with friends, or at Grandma’s, when you want to know where they are.
  • In an emergency, when one press of the SOS button lets you know they need help.

Lessons are only a small part of the day. For most of the time your child is without you, they’ll have their watch on. And if the school allows them to keep it, school mode silences it during class and only SOS and location tracking work.

2. SIM card: who arranges it and how much does it cost?

Most kids' smartwatches with calling sold in Hungary come without a SIM card. Parents then have to buy one from a carrier, choose a plan, disable the PIN, and insert the card into the watch. Parents on Hungarian forums often ask which SIM card to buy.

KLOKI watches come with a SIM card already installed, so there’s nothing to buy or insert. You don’t pay a carrier; you only pay the subscription in the app. In Hungary, prices are in forints:

monthly with annual payment (per month) with three-year payment (per month)
Stay in touch 1 249 Ft 999 Ft 874 Ft
Track & Talk 2 499 Ft 1 999 Ft 1 749 Ft

The first month of the Stay in touch plan is free.

The Stay in touch plan (Maradj kapcsolatban in Hungarian) includes GPS location tracking, unlimited voice messages, and photo sharing. SOS alerts are sent to the app. The Track & Talk plan (Figyeld és hívd in Hungarian) also includes 20 minutes of calls per month, and its SOS button can call up to three contacts.

3. A Hungarian app isn’t enough: the watch menu matters even more

A comparison on Testado.hu specifically notes for one model: “the app is in Hungarian, but the watch’s interface is available only in a foreign language.” Parents can navigate the app, but children may struggle with the watch itself. A common search phrase is “gyerek okosóra magyar menüvel” (kids' smartwatch with a Hungarian menu).

Both are in Hungarian on KLOKI watches: the watch menu and the Findee Kids app. Customer support also responds in Hungarian.

4. Who can call your child, and where is the data stored?

The security company ESET gives clear advice: “If communication between the device and the server isn’t encrypted, we should avoid buying the product.” It also recalls a 2019 incident in which a security flaw in a kids' watch exposed the data of more than 5,000 children.

All calls on KLOKI watches go through our own secure switchboard, which only allows contacts you’ve approved in the app. No one knows the watch’s actual phone number, so strangers can’t call your child. Data stays in the EU. The watches have no games, browser, or social media.

5. Moon or Star?

  • KLOKI Moon: a first watch for children aged 3–9. Round, 37 grams, lasts up to 5 days on a single charge, easy to use, and can also be attached to a backpack with a carabiner bezel.
  • KLOKI Star: more features, including a camera that also records video, music, heart-rate monitoring, and Gorilla Glass 3 protective glass. Lasts up to 3 days on a single charge.

Both models have the same safety features.

6. Before Christmas

According to a 2025 Cofidis survey, three-quarters of Hungarians start shopping for Christmas gifts before December. If you want to give the watch for St. Nicholas Day, there’s still plenty of time: we dispatch orders within 24 hours and deliver in Hungary in 1–3 business days. If it doesn’t work out, you can return it within 30 days.
